The Space
The apartment, which has its own front door up 3 steps from the parking area, has just undergone a complete refurbishment including redecoration throughout, new carpets and a beautiful new bathroom with a large shower bath. It is equipped to Visit England 4-star standard (like my other two properties in Bury St Edmunds and Southwold) although it has not yet been officially graded. There is a small terrace with garden furniture provided which is a real sun-trap (if the English sun decides to shine!).
The major attraction of the apartment is its location in the heart of the historic town centre – it’s worth knowing that many properties which advertise themselves as being in Bury St Edmunds are, in fact, some distance from the town but this is the real deal! The town centre location means that all the historic highlights of this fine, medieval market town are a matter of moments from the apartment, including the stunning floral displays in the Abbey Gardens. Close by also are the the Arc shopping centre, and the exceptional newly-built entertainment venue, the Apex, which attracts world class performers who appreciate its excellent acoustics There is also the noted Theatre Royal, a rare Georgian playhouse, owned by the National Trust, popular with visiting theatre companies and local productions alike. And then there are the many excellent restaurants, shops and bars and the historic Greene King brewery where the tours include spectacular panoramic views of views of the town and beyond from the top of the brew house as well as the chance to taste the iconic and lesser known ales. Bury St Edmunds is situated in the heart of East Anglia and it is therefore the ideal place from which to explore the many delights of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, including a number of National Trust properties such as the handsome, palladian Ickworth House and the Tudor splendour of Melford Hall. Newmarket, world headquarters of horse racing, with its world famous racecourse is just 20 minutes’ drive.
Guest Access
The entire spacious flat, with super-comfortable king size bed, lots of storage space, large sitting room and separate kitchen/dining room will be yours to relax in and enjoy. The centre of this historic town and its market place are very close by and your car is parked right outside the door so you can easily explore the rich cultural highlights of the surrounding area.
Up to 2 additional guests can be accommodated as there is a king size ‘Aerobed’ which inflates automatically into a comfortable full height bed in minutes, though it does require some moving around of the sitting room furniture to accommodate it. Please be aware that there is parking for only one car, however.
Interaction with Guests
There is a key safe for access and so you will be completely independent but I live nearby, so can be on hand if needed.
The Neighbourhood
Bury St Edmunds is a hidden gem of a town at the centre of East Anglia and is perfectly placed for exploring the delights of Cambridge, Lavenham, the Suffolk countryside and the pretty coastal towns and all points in between.
Getting Around
The A14, which passes Bury St Edmunds, gives excellent connections to the whole of East Anglia. The railway station is about 5 minutes’ walk and the bus station even closer.
Other Things to Note
There will be a welcome pack to greet you with coffee/tea/milk/biscuits and also a bottle of fizz so you can celebrate the start of your holiday!
Please bear in mind that this is a ground-floor apartment in a building comprising two apartments in total and is not a detached house. As with many apartments (and with many hotel rooms!) due to the design of the building there is occasionally and inevitably some noise from the apartment above, although as you can see from our reviews this has not affected our guests’ enjoyment of the space up to now. I am mentioning this now rather than have our guests inconvenienced in any way by any unexpected intrusion into the usual peace and quiet. There are many positives in the apartment’s town centre location but, as with everything in life, there is always a down side!
